Ninth Malfuz

It has been narrated by Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh that, Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh had kept a certain thing in a certain specific place. Someone came and used that thing and then kept it somewhere else. Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh had to look for it and encountered a bit of difficulty and Takleef in looking for it.

Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh then said,

“It is part of my principles that whatever you take, then return it back in the same place that you took it from so that people say this about me that, ‘he deals with us very strictly in small small things such as this one. This is something which causes Takleef, Pareshaani and distress even though it is minor distress. Even if it is a minor Takleef, why should a Muslim be given Takleef to the action of someone else. What difficulty is there in this that when you take something from somewhere then you return it where you took it from?”

This is a very important principle which Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh has mentioned here because we consider these things to be very small and insignificant; we do not attach any importance to these things, we do not give them any attention whereas it is these actions which cause Takleef to people. We need to do some introspection and look into ourselves, ‘how many such actions are we doing which we do not think twice about but are giving Takleef to people around us…’

People might not tell us and may make Sabr, it may be minor but we are giving Takleef.

Why give Takleef to others and why be negligent in that regard?

It is these small things which matter and make a difference.

Look at what happened here and the principle of Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh.

We should also adopt this principle.

Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh had kept something in a certain place, someone took and used it perhaps and returned it in the wrong place and Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh had to look for it. Then he mentioned,

‘This is my principle. Whatever you take, return it back where you took it from.’

We are generally very negligent regarding this particular thing.

  • Firstly there has to be a system in our homes where each thing has its specific place and everyone knows that if they want that thing, it is going to be in that specific place.
  • And when a person takes that thing to use and he wants to then put it back, then he should return it in the same place.

How many of us have this rule and follow this principle in our house?

When we take something from somewhere, we use it and put it back somewhere else and many times when another person wants to use that thing then he doesn’t know where it is and has to look for it. Perhaps we were the ones who had used it last and are not at home at the time when the other person is looking for it as he wants to use it. He doesn’t find it where it is normally kept because we left it somewhere else and now he is getting Takleef because of us.

For example, we used something which is kept in the bedroom and because we were using it in the sitting room, we kept it there only. People are looking for it in the bedroom whereas the thing is sitting in the sitting room and they are getting Takleef.

A lot of Pareshaani is caused in this way.

Sometimes a person has to rush somewhere and is getting late, he needs to use that thing very quickly and does not find it in its place. Now he is Pareshaan and his time is going and getting wasted and he cannot find it because someone used it and kept it somewhere else.

Everything has to be in its place. The reason for this system is that no one should get Takleef and their time does not get wasted and no Pareshaani or distress is caused to anyone.

Everything should have its place and everyone should know the rule – ‘you take something to use, you should put it back in its place, so if someone comes and they want to use it, then they should find it in its place.’

In that way a lot of ease is created and people’s  time is saved and no one gets Takleef.

People may consider this to be something small and insignificant but it is actually something very big and important. We should not cause Takleef to people with regards to this particular rule specifically and our actions in general.

Generally we don’t have a system in our homes. Everything is haphazard and things don’t have a place because they are strewn or thrown and just kept anywhere. There has to be a system so that the Nizaam of the house runs smoothly and no one gets Takleef and their time is not wasted.

This is a very important thing which has been emphasised by Hadhrat Thanvi Rahmatullahi Alayh that no one should get Takleef due to anyone else’s action.

There is nothing difficult in taking something and putting it back in its place.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala grant us this understanding.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala save us from giving Takleef to anyone.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala give us the Tawfiq of bringing such principles and rules in our homes, for our children and adults so that the system of the house can run smoothly and there is ease for everyone, no one’s time is wasted and no one gets Takleef. That is the main thing.

May Allah grant us all the Tawfiq for that, Inshallah Ta’ala.
