The very important lesson that we learn from the Aayaat of Surah Yusuf is that we should always fear and be scared with regards to ourselves because there is no guarantee that we are going to stay upon Haqq until our last breath.
Hearts are in the control of Allah and this is what we have mentioned many times.
Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has discussed this reality extensively in the Ahadith; how our hearts are in the control of Allah and He can flip it around at any time.
When the heart flips around then there is nothing that a person can do about it.
The object of our reverence, love, adoration and respect in a split second becomes the object of our hatred and malice and that is how hearts turn.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala splits the heart around due to something that is inside us. It is not Zulm from the Side of Allah Naudhubillah, but due to our actions, words, qualities, our stubborn refusal to change, lack of Ikhlaas, our insincerity and the hidden Nifaaq inside us. The result of all of this is that Allah then flips the heart and then that person starts to move in the opposite direction; he was moving towards Allah and he then starts moving away from Allah.
We do not even need to mention incidents because the examples are in front of us.
The fear that we should have is what is going to protect us, that it shouldn’t be ‘my heart also gets flipped…’
When the heart gets flipped, a person’s thinking changes, his direction changes, everything changes and a person does not realise what happened.
That is why the Duas which Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam taught are so important. We may be already making them but they are just a reminder.
Recite at least once daily
Ya hayyu yaa qayyum birahmatika astageeth aslih lee sha’nee kullahu walaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata aynin
We are addressing Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala with His two Names…
Ya hayyu yaa qayyum
‘O that Being who is Eternal and ever living and the One who gives life…
O Allah I am begging the help of Your Mercy
Aslih lee sha’nee kullahu
Ya Allah rectify and reform every Haal and problem of mine (in Deen, Dunya, spiritually, emotionally, physically)
Walaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata aynin
And Ya Allah, do not hand me over (leave me) to my Nafs (myself) for even the blink of an eye…’
Yaa muqallibal quloob thabbit qalbee alaa deenik
‘O the Being who turns hearts, keep my heart firm on Deen.’
Ya Allah, don’t turn my heart away from Deen, Ya Allah don’t turn my heart away from You.
Yaa musarrifal quloob, sarrif quluubana alaa taa’atik
‘O the Being who changes the direction of the hearts, turn (direct) my heart towards Your Obedience.’
This is a Dua we should be making after every Namaz. It comes in the Qur’an e Kareem.
Rabbana laa tuzigh quluubana ba’da idh hadaytana wa hablana min ladunka rahmah innaka antal wahhaab
‘O our Rabb, do not lead our hearts astray after you have given us Hidayat; don’t allow our hearts to veer off the straight path after you have given us Hidayat; do not make our hearts crooked after you have granted us Hidayat. Ya Allah give us a special gift from Your Side of Your Mercy, You are the One who gifts Mercy (no one else can)…’
How will that happen?
Only and only through Your Mercy, Ya Allah we don’t deserve to be guided by You, we don’t deserve Your Hidayat, we don’t deserve protection from زَيْغْ Zaygh (deviation and crooked ness), but Ya Allah You are Merciful. Rahmat is Your quality and Your Mercy is through Your Karam; Your Mercy comes down on those who don’t deserve Your Mercy…
There are two things which we don’t deserve;
- Ya Allah, we don’t deserve Your Hidayat.
- We don’t deserve to be protected from deviation, it is only and only through Your Mercy that we can be granted Hidayat and Protection from deviation, but the thing is, we do not deserve Your Mercy either…
But Ya Allah, You are that Being and You shower Your Mercy on those people who don’t even deserve Your Mercy.
Ya Allah, we don’t even deserve Your Rahmat but we are still begging Your Rahmat because we know You are Kareem, so Ya Allah give us a special gift from Your Side of Your Mercy because it is only through that mercy and protection that we can get Hidayat because it is You who is the Gifter; the One who Gifts mercy as we cannot get it from anywhere else.
Ya Allah we are begging from You Your mercy through the Barkat and the quality of Your name of Al Wahhab, Ya Allah give us something of Your mercy also…
What Aajzi there is in this Dua!
How much are we putting ourselves down in this Dua?
That is what is going to and what works in the Court of Allah.
That is when the Rahmat of Allah comes down.
But what is our Haal today?
We don’t want to show that Aajzi, not to people nor to Allah, on the contrary we want to show an attitude to Allah Himself, that we don’t need all this and we are self sufficient….
That is when Allah changes and turns around the heart and that is a very dangerous state to be in.
May Allah save all of us from that.
Allahumma arinal haqqa haqqan warzuqnat tibaa’ah wa arinal baatila baatila warzuqnaj tinaabah
‘Ya Allah, I do not have the ability to see Haqq for what it is, Ya Allah You show me. Ya Allah, I cannot see Baatil for what it is because I am so weak, gullible and so easily deceived. Ya Allah, You show me what Baatil is, I won’t know…’
Again, it is handing everything over to Allah but today we have people who say ‘I can see Nur here and I can see darkness there…’Those people are very far from Deen say that and pass such decisions and judgements that,’ here there is Nur, and there is darkness there.
We don’t have that ability!
We need to turn to Allah and ask Allah to show us.
In this Dua again, there is an Aajzi.
Another very beautiful Duaa
Allahumma inna na’uudhubika min jamee’il fitan maa dhahara minha wa maa batan fee daakhilil watan wa fee khaarijil watan
‘O Allah, we seek protection in You from all types of Fitan which are out there today, those Fitnahs which are (zaahir) apparent and open for us to see as well as those which are Baatin – hidden and cannot be seen easily and Ya Allah save us from all those Fitnahs which are inside our homeland as well as outside our homeland; Ya Allah save us from local Fitnahs (those specific to our locality) and international Fitnahs (those which are spread all over the world).’
- Fee daakhilil watan – فِيْ دَاخِلِ الْوَطَن – can also refer to Fitnahs inside the house.
- Khaarijil watan – خَارِجِ الْوَطَن – referring to Fitnahs outside the house.
In that way, you are seeking protection from kinds of Fitnah.
Fitan is the جمع – plural of Fitnah
Fitnah is singular
We should hold on to all these five Duas besides the other Duas that we make and recite them at least once everyday, and better if recited more times.
These are Duas which are most important in this Zamana for our protection.
Pondering over these Duas while reciting them on a daily basis will also help in bringing the fear regarding ourselves, Inshallah Ta’ala.
