Whoever Remembers Maut Abundantly, Allah Honors Him With Three Ne’mats

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

ابو حامد لفاف رحمہ الله علیہ کہتے ہیں کہ جو شخص موت کو کثرت سے یاد کرے اس کے اوپر تین چیزوں کا اکرام ہوتا ہے

Abu Haamid Rafaaf Rahimahullah Ta’ala likhte hain ke jo shakhs Maut ko kasrat se yaad karey uske upar teen cheezo ka ikraam hota hai

The Wali of Allah Abu Haamid Rafaaf Rahumahullah Ta’ala writes that whoever remembers Maut abundantly then Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala honors him with 3 Ne’mats.

A person is honored with three Ne’mats bounties and favors from the side of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala as a result of abundantly remembering Maut.

  • The First Ne’mat

توبہ جلدی نصیب ہوتی ہے

Taubah jaldi naseeb hoti hai

A person is blessed with the Taufeeq to make Taubah quickly.

Taubah does not happen without Taufeeq. If Allah does not grant a person the ability, Taufeeq to make Taubah then that person is not going to be able to make Taubah. The first thing that happens is that, a person is granted the Tawfeeq from the side of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, to make Tawbah quickly. Yanike (in other words), this person now does not delay in Tawbah and that is natural. He does not delay in Tawbah because he is remembering Maut all the time. Maut his death is in front of him and he understands regarding, “my time may run out at any moment. I may not have time to make Tawbah later on. I need to make Tawbah right now.” Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, as a result of remembrance of Maut, grants him the Tawfeeq to make Tawbah quickly. Tawbah means separating oneself, completely from all types of sin and all types of disobedience of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

  • The Second Ne’mat

مال میں قناعت میسر ہوتی ہے

Maal mei kana’at muyassar hoti hei

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, grants that person contentment Kana’at with whatever wealth, Maal he has.

In other words, Allah removes the opposite of contentment and that is greed. Greed and contentment are two opposites. The general condition of the Ummat today is, everyone has the evil quality and sickness of greed inside them:

  1. Greed for Dunya.
  2. Greed for Maal.

They spend their entire lives running after Dunya even though they may have enough, but they want more and more and more. When a person remembers Maut, he has his Maut in front of him then he understands, “this Maal, wealth which I am running after is going to be of no use to me after I pass away and die. This wealth is no longer going to remain mine. It is going to pass on to my inheritors. So, what is the point of trying to amass more and more, especially at the expense of our Deen?” A person is granted the extremely important quality of Kana’at contentment. This gives a person peace of mind and it also frees up a person to make the effort of Aakhirat. It gives a person time to do those Aamaal and to make those efforts which are going to connect a person to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Otherwise, a person is going to waste his entire life running after more and more and suddenly Maut comes. He had forgotten Maut but then it is too late. At that time he realizes, the reality hits him, Haqiqat comes in front of him regarding:

“Where did I waste my life?”

The regret blankets and overcomes him at that time regarding:

“Where did I waste my life? I wasted my life in such things which today are not going to benefit me at all. Malakul Maut is standing in front of me, ready to take me away from this very temporary, worthless Dunya, into a world, which is never going to end.”

In a world which contains either, unimaginable treasures on one side or horrendous  horrible punishments on the other side. At that time, the reality hits the person regarding how he has wasted his life, which is not going to benefit him at this point.

But then it is too late.

When a person keeps Maut in mind, he keeps Maut in front of him by abundantly remembering Maut, then Inshallāh a person will understand, this Maal which he has is only going to remain with him for a short while. Thereafter a person is going to become content and greed will go.

This is the second thing which Allah honours the person with as a result of remembering Maut abundantly.

  • The Third Ne’mat

عبادت میں نشاعة اور دل بستگی پیدا ہوتی ہے

Ibaadat mei nashat aur dil bastagi peda hoti hei

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala grants a person for him to become active in Ibaadat.

A person becomes active in Ibaadat. He desires from his heart to spend time in Ibaadat. When we have Maut in front of us all the time then we understand, “it is Ibaadat which is going to help us after Maut. My time to perform these actions Aamaal can end at any moment.” At that point, when a person has Maut in front of him, then he is always going to feel active with regards to Ibaadat. He will not feel lazy.

The opposite is laziness, which unfortunately is again our condition. The condition of the Ummat today, is that with regards to Dunya and the things of the Dunya, we are all so active and eager, but when it comes to Deen, Aakhirat and Ibaadat, there is nothing but laziness.

A simple example is:

A person is feeling lazy to go for Isha Namaz, whereas we know that for a man to perform his Namaz in Masjid is Waajib. A man has to perform Namaz in the Masjid, whether Isha or Maghrib or any Namaz. It is Isha time, a man is feeling lazy to go to the Masjid or perhaps there is a woman feeling lazy to perform Isha at home. She thinks “eh, four Rakaats, then two Rakaats, then three Rakaats, whole nine Rakaats, ya Allah it seems to be like a mountain to climb. It is so difficult, I am so tired and my legs are paining. The whole day I was standing in the kitchen, cleaning the house, looking after the children and doing everything. I am feeling so lazy to perform Isha.” Therefore, she decides, “today I am just feeling too tired.” She does not feel like performing Isha. She decides it is too hard to perform Isha Salah today and she does not perform. But at nine o’clock that night, her husband comes home, and tells her, “today I am giving you a surprise. We are going out for dinner. There is a new restaurant which has opened and I have heard it is really nice. I wanted to give you a surprise treat. Let us go and have dinner at this restaurant.”

What will happen?

At that time all the tiredness, laziness and complaints will suddenly evaporate as if they were never there. She is not going to tell her husband, “you know l am feeling so lazy, I’m feeling so tired. Just leave it.” She is going to start jumping and down. She is going to hug him and say, “oh you are so kind and you love me so much. You wanted to go give me a surprise today. What a nice husband you are.” She goes and gives him a tight hug and tells him, “let’s go, let’s go.” She runs to her room, goes to the wardrobe and asks, “what dress should I wear?”

What happened?

The same woman who was feeling lazy to perform Isha Salah, but when her husband came home and said, “let us go to the restaurant” she is jumping up and down in happiness. For Ibaadat, she was feeling lazy, but for food, she is very much ready. This is because we do not have Maut in front of us. We forget that we have to die and it is only these things which are going to help us after that. When the Ehsaas realization and Yaqeen is not there upon Maut then this is our Haal.

For everything else, we are ready but we are not ready for Ibaadat. We are not talking about extra Ibaadat, but that which is basic Fardh Namaz. We are not talking about extra Ibaadat like Tahajjud. But we see the laziness of the Ummat with regards to such Ibaadat. For Dunya we are active but for Ibaadat we are lazy. This is because we have forgotten about Maut. That person who remembers Maut all the time will never become lazy with regards to Ibaadat. Not only will he be doing the Fardh, necessary Ibaadat, but he will be also actively involving himself in Nafl Ibaadat. He will be doing it with Shauk, desire, enthusiasm, zeal, happiness and sweetness because Maut is in front of him. This is the third Ne’mat a person is honoured with as a result of remembering Maut abundantly.
