بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Q.Respected Ustadh, if the community is afflicted with a problem or some natural disaster, is it right to state that it is due to their sins? Here I have heard Ulama say in Bayans.
It is wrong to blame them specifically regarding their sins, because we are sinful. The correct way to say it, although, very true that calamities come due to our sins and Aamaal but the correct way of saying it is “our sins, the Ummat’s sins.” Because the entire Ummat’s sins affect all the different part of the Ummat. So it is not just their sins, it is our sins as well. It is the entire Ummat’s sins. Because many times when we say it is their sins, then it gives us that sort of a holier attitude. We are pious, they are Gunehgaar, that is why it happened to them and we are above that, which is a totally totally wrong thing. It’s very dangerous. Pride comes into us. The reality is we are all sinful, it is our sins, that is when a person is going to get the Tawfeeq of Tauba. Because if we say their sins, then we are not going to make Tauba from their sins. So we will think that we don’t have anything. So that is totally wrong to say that.
